Case Study: KUBRA Storm Center; Provides Answers to Millions During Winter Storm

When a devastating winter storm swept across Texas in February 2021, millions of residents turned to their utility’s outage maps for power restoration updates. Leveraging real-time data from each utility’s outage management system, Storm Center™ helped customers report power outages, check their outage status, receive estimated times of restoration, and locate crisis support. Utilities kept their customers informed by posting public announcements and updates on the map and allowed them to display areas to avoid and shelter locations.

This case study uses map statistics from the peak storm days to highlight how much customers rely on their utility outage maps for information during severe weather events. The dramatic spike in map views also illustrates Storm Center’s reliability as it remained online despite dramatic surges in traffic.
